Illustrating my Art making Process:

For the visual representation of my artmaking process I made the main themes or actions in the process into color coded stepping stones and with the black line show how many times I repeat those same steps and in what order to bring a project from an idea to completion.
Themes or Actions:
Red: Meeting with client
Orange: Tinkering/adjusting
Yellow: Research
Green: Initial ideation and brainstorming phase
Blue: Asking questions and asking for constructive criticism
Light Blue: Collaboration
Fusha: Thumbnails, idea list, variations of ideas,
drawing and the actual work to reach completion
Dark Purple: Refine phase
White: Planning
Research
I look up inspirational reference material they recommend and absorb info from the company’s online presence
Client meeting 1, client tells:
Story
Goal
Ideas
Problems
Solutions
Timeline
Target media audience
Types of investors
Question and notetaking phase
Team brainstorming, connecting ideas, combining different skillsets of team
Individual Brainstorming
Starts with summarizing notes into organized key points, ideas circulate around those and between the motivations of the client and motivations of target audience
Research
Thumbnails, idea list, idea variations, list of questions
Client meeting 2
Present thumbnails, pitch ideas
Questions
Ask for constructive criticism in specific visual elements
Tinkering/Adjusting to match clients vision
create a set of rules within artwork -use to engage audience and amplify the message in key memorable moments in image or video, must create strong emotional reaction in audience, must connect both the client and audience motivations together
Client meeting 3
Final Pitch, storyboard, or very rough draft
Ask for constructive criticism
Talk contract, have all parts in writing and adjustments throughout in writing in email/text
(life happens on both ends, it is good to be adaptable, problem solve preemptively with client, and able to keep progressing)
Timeline
Pay
Expectations
Expectations for possible extra pay if adjustments phase goes on too long
Tinkering/Adjusting
Research
Tinkering/Adjusting
deeper, more focused research may change compositions or force plan to change a lot here
Problem solving in visual communication of data and big ideas, organizing ideas into digestible, memorable snippets
Planning
Break work into list of big steps to cross off
Break big steps into little steps, write on clear sticky note tabs and place in “accordian calendar” according to worst case
scenario of time needed. Adjust sticky notes if plan needs adjusting to still hit major due dates on time
Access to materials?
Coordinating
With team or contributors, possible subcontractors or talent, talk pipeline
Connect to people who know more than you and have different skills than you
Work the steps
Client meeting 4
Ask question, problem solving, tinkering/adjust, ask for constructive criticism
Finish steps
Refine
Safety net time set aside for issues with technology or unexpected roadblocks
Client meeting 5, reveal final product!
Adjustments phase, possibly additional pay
