Here is how I took notes on the National Core Arts Standards. These are set by the National Art Education Association and can be found here:
The document was very dense but printing it out and trying to visualize how to layout, layer, and color code the information in my mind helps me recall information by having a mental picture to reference.
The "artistic process" and "anchor standards" help guide students learning overtime from being introduced to philosophical foundations to exercising technical and critical thinking skills that are essential to practice for any of their lifelong goals. When thinking about creating lesson plans and teaching in the classroom, I decided I'd copy and color code the lifelong goals and nest them under the foundational topics to help me learn them. Instead of using bullet points I used check boxes, thinking about how as a teacher I would want to make sure I was giving students opportunities to practice these skills at different levels of difficulty at different ages and checking them off the list to make sure I included these opportunities in my lessons.
